Where do you start

when trying to use words to capture and share the essence of a life journey so filled with love for her family and community?

Annie Mcdonald was a founding member of the Croydon Sickle Cell & Thalassemia Support group. There is no question mark over her passion and commitment to improving the lives of people living with these conditions.

Annie was a warrior in the true sense of the word. No matter how many battles and challenges the condition presented to her, she found a way round, over or under, to come out on the other side. She shared what these experiences taught her, to help others.

Annie co-facilitated the parent and toddler group meetings with the clinical nurse specialist and used this opportunity to demonstrate, that in spite of their childs diagnosis, they could enjoy and look forward to a long life. This always had an amazing impact on parents.

Her contribution to the review of services for people living with sickle cell in the London Ambulance Service, NHS and schools, has been invaluable. Her insights helping to shape policy development and governance.

But there was also the personal side. Annie always made herself available for any members who needed to talk or get some advice.

She will be truly missed by us all.
